Let's take a look at the Tallest Pokemon of them all! Here are the Tallest Pokemon ranked by height, some of the most outrageously creative Pokemon with the coolest designs to date. Here are those Pokemon so tall they pretty much constantly have their head in the clouds! Hello, up there!
Tallest Pokemon Ranked
20. Guzzlord (18'01")
Guzzlord is pretty iconic in its own right, both in the Pokemon anime and the Pokemon games. A scary looking Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII, it is one of the Ultra Beasts and is code named UB-05 Glutton, also known as the Junkivore Pokémon. Like most Ultra Beasts, Guzzlord has a design that differs on a fundamental level from that of a normal Pokémon. It looks a little like something you’d find at the end of a dungeon in a Final Fantasy game. It is said to have become this big and heavy thanks to its ability to eat anything it finds, from rusty tools to run-down cars. It makes sense then, that Guzzlord would stand at 18'01" while weighing a whopping 1957 lbs to boot.
This gluttonous monster is seemingly designed to spook its prey. It's not only quite tall, but is also laced with horns, a mace-like tail, and rows of large, sharp teeth contrasted by a yellow mouth. Guzzlord also boasts a tough complexion that is said to resemble hard rubber.
19. Stakataka (18'01")
Generation VII introduced a different kind of creature called Ultra Beasts, beings from another world that wandered into Alola by accident. Among them, Stakataka is one of the least organic-looking, an Ultra Beast composed of many dark gray, stone lifeforms stacked together to form a four-sided tower with a spindly leg on each corner. Known as the Rampart Pokémon, this mysterious four-legged stack of blocks is actually comprised of various living stone lifeforms which are compiled together to form a single entity, each of which has a notorious shiny “eye”. This dual Rock/Steel-type is an absolute tank in combat and quite literally towers over most in its wake with a massive body made of stacked stones, plus is one of the heaviest Pokemon out there! It weighs in at 1807 lbs, making it the heaviest of the already weighty Rock-type. This huge Pokemon beast stands at over 18 feet tall!
18. Yveltal (19'00")
Known as the Destruction Pokemon, this dual Dark/Flying type Legendary Pokemon monster is made all the more ominous with its large stature and extended length, which stands at an even 19 feet. The mascot for Pokemon Y and the counterpart of Xerneas, Yveltal has remained a popular (and typically elusive) find for fans with its sheer power and awesome appearance. A member of the Aura Trio alongside Xerneas and Zygarde, it looks like the perfect Pokemon mob boss with its fearsome appearance and even has the powers to back up its threatening look, as it holds the power to absorb life essence itself by merely spreading its wings and tail feathers. You definitely don't want to be around when this Pokemon spreads its wings and starts to glow red! If it is disturbed while sleeping or recovering, it will be sure to seek vengeance on those who come to bother it.
17. Milotic (20'04")
Said to be the most beautiful Pokemon in the world, this Pokemon could definitely be described as magnificent! This beautiful Water type from Generation 3 evolves from the startled looking Feebas, either by maximizing their beauty with Poffins or making it hold a Prism Scale while leveling up, depending on which game you’re playing. One of the larger Pokemon to grace the seas, it stands out with its vibrant appearance and jutting pink antennae. It's quite hard to get a sense of how long this Pokemon truly is with its slithery, serpentine, fast moving form, yet is one of the tallest creatures in the game, especially compared to other default forms, measuring 20'04". It's a Pokemon you can only dream of meeting one day, or even catching a glimpse of in real life as Milotic seems like the stuff of magic and fairytales! Check out good nicknames for Milotic here!
16. Palkia Origin Forme (20'08")
Palkia is one of the Legendary Pokemon found in the Hisui region that has two forms; base forme and origin forme, which can be accessed by using the Lustrous Orb. Once in its Origin Forme, Palkia retains its original typing, as a dual Water and Dragon Type, but its appearance changes to closely resemble a Centaur from Greek mythology, fused with a dragon. As described in the Legends rendition of the Pokedex, this Pokemon is "feared as a deity in Hisuian legend." According to mythology, Palkia's birth led to the "collapse of the walls of our world, creating a sky that spans for infinity." Given its legendary background and status as practically a Poke-deity, it makes sense that Palkia stands as one of the tallest creatures.
Although its base height is 13'09", it extends to a towering 20'08" in its Origin Forme.
15. Hoopa Unbound (21'04")
A Pokemon that looks straight out of the Multiverse or the realms of a Dr Strange film, Hoopa Unbound is said to be Hoopa's true form and is said to have the power to bend dimensions. This allows it to seize anything in the world. As seen in the anime, either form can travel through its rings and Hoopa Unbound has the ability to control and summon powerful Legendary Pokémon. A dual Psychic and Ghost Type Mythical Pokemon from Generation 6, Hoopa normally has a small and kind of adorable form, measuring only about 1'08". But that is its confined form. Packed in to there is actually a massive Pokemon standing at 21'04" tall, that is called its Unbound form, a transformation that can be triggered by using the Prison Bottle item, although Hoopa Unbound will revert back to its confined form after three days.
14. Gyarados/Mega Gyarados (21'04")
Known as the Atrocious Pokemon, Gyarados is the evolved version of Magikarp and was one of the original 151 Pokemon from the Kanto region. A dual Water and Flying Type, it is best known as one of Misty's Pokemon in the anime. Covered in strong dragon scales, this Pokémon is actually a water baby and most probably the strongest water type snake Pokémon. Its bite is extremely powerful, it possesses extraordinary fangs it can use to crush almost anything in the ocean. Though it received a Mega Evolution with the release of Pokemon X and Y, Gyarados remains the same size in both its normal and Mega forms, standing at 21'04" tall. Despite not getting a Mega size increase, Gyarados still remains one of the tallest Pokemon in the series.
13. Giratina Origin Forme (22'08")
A dual Ghost/Dragon-type Legendary Pokemon, often known as the Renegade Pokémon for its unruly tendencies, Giratina is another Pokemon that doesn't evolve, but instead has more than one form. In its Altered Forme (which is its base form), Giratina is only 14'09"; however, in its Origin Forme, it grows to an even more massive 22'08". The Origin Forme of Giratina is said to be Giratina's true form, capable of traveling through and controlling dimensions besides those of time and space. When in its Origin Forme, it can pass through dimensions at will, however, it will turn back to its Altered Forme due to the gravity change from the Distortion World. It can also change form when holding a Griseous Orb and originally debuted in Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, being the cover mascot of Pokemon Platinum.
12. Rayquaza (23'00")
Just that epic name is indicative of its mighty and ferocious nature, this legendary Pokemon is like a dragon snake hybrid. It consumes meteoroids for sustenance and flies forever through the ozone layer. It may be known as a dragon-type, but there’s no denying that it resembles that of a snake. Long and curled, with its epic Air Lock ability, Rayquaza is serpent-like in its movements and is easily one of the most powerful of the snake-like Pokémon. A dual Dragon and Flying Type Legendary Pokemon first introduced with the release of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Rayquaza is among the tallest Pokemon in the franchise with a height of 23'00".
Even though it's incredibly large, Rayquaza is not often seen by the people within the Pokemon universe as it is said to fly so high above the clouds that it cannot be perceived from the ground. Though it does not evolve into any other forms, Rayquaza can Mega Evolve, which makes it even larger than its normal form.
11. Ultra Necrozma (24'07")
This formidable looking beast of a Pokemon is Necrozma, an interesting Legendary Pokemon that has the ability to fuse with either Solgaleo or Lunala and then utilize Ultra Burst, which is a transformation similar to Mega Evolution.
On its own, Necrozma is only 7'10", a vaguely humanoid Pokémon whose body appears to be constructed out of a black crystalline material. The black color is a result of impurities building up within it as a result of its deep slumber. Once it absorbs enough light, Necrozma can undergo a process called Ultra Burst to reclaim its true form: Ultra Necrozma, a colossal dragon of pure light energy. Its size makes it the tallest Psychic-type and one of the tallest Pokemon ever, growing to be over three times its original length at 24'07". The various pieces of Necrozma's crystalline body are rearranged as a sort of "skeleton" for the rest of Ultra Necrozma's body. These pieces take on a golden glow from the light but return to black without it. Surprisingly, it remains the same exact weight as its original form! Now let's talk the top ten tallest Pokemon...
10. Wishiwashi (26'11")
Let's talk Wishiwashi, a really unique and amazing Water-type Pokemon with two drastically different forms in battle. From weakling to giant of the sea, Wishiwashi is the result of some epic teamworking skills. Its solo form is exceptionally tiny, while its school form is so massive that even Gyarados fears it. After activating its signature ability, Schooling, Wishiwashi goes from a single small fry to a whole school that forms a gigantic 26'11" long beast of the sea. If anyone ever thought that Wishiwashi was a pushover, they were sadly mistaken.
9. Onix (28'10")
Known as the Rock Snake Pokemon, Onix has a body made of rocks to make up its snake-like body. While Onix may not be able to quietly sneak and slither through grass like most snakes, this massive creature can actually tunnel underground to move between locations. It also moves at speeds up to 50 miles per hour so this guy can come flying out of the ground at any minute, which is pretty terrifying! A dual Rock and Ground Type Pokemon from Generation 1, Onix has long been one of the tallest Pokemon around, as the very tallest amongst all of the generation one Pokemon, with an impressive height of 28'10". The horn on its head adds even more height to its already towering frame, but the most impressive part about it is the fact that Onix still has an evolution that is even taller!
8. Steelix (30'02")
Yes, we're talking Steelix! A powerful steel snake creature, Steelix is the evolved form of Onix and has now become a seemingly indestructible iron snake. It retains the long and snake-like body but now has spikes that emerge from rock-like sections along its steely skin. It has a bulbous head that looks almost like a shark and is pretty much the picture of utter destruction waiting to happen. If you thought Onix was terrifying, Steelix is on another level. Like Onix, Steelix is often found underground in mountains or in caves. This dual Steel/Ground Type Pokemon was first introduced in Generation 2 when Pokemon Gold & Silver were released, to quickly steal the title of Tallest Pokemon from its prevolved form, Onix. It gets a huge growth spurt through its evolution and its normal form, Steelix is a whopping 30'02" tall, not to mention that it gets even larger when it Mega Evolves...
7. Celesteela (30'02")
Let's talk the Heaviest Pokemon in the franchise aka Celesteela! As one of the extradimensional Ultra Beasts, Celesteela has both an appearance and height that are literally out of this world. It is not only one of the tallest Pokemon but also the heaviest in the entire Pokedex, weighing in at 999.9 kg/ 2204.4 lbs. Appearing as as a curious hybrid of both long stalks of bamboo and a spaceship, it can reach up to 30'02", which could be around the right size for a smaller spaceship! It also appears as a little like a Japanese lady in a traditional kimono as a Space Shuttle like form. But there is a reason for this, this dual Steel/Flying-type is said to be based on the Japanese folk Tale of Princess Kaguya, a girl known to be born on the Moon and sent to Earth inside a bamboo shoot. It is considered to be the oldest Japanese story to be put down in prose, so you could suppose that Celesteela's weight is so great as to carry the weight of an entire ancient literary tradition on its shoulders. If it had shoulders, of course!
6. Primal Kyogre (32'02")
A standard Kyogre already has the size of a sea monster at 14'09". However, if it holds the Blue Orb and undergoes Primal Reversion, it will grow significantly and transform into the mighty Primal Kyogre.
Primal Kyogre's total height is 32'02", over twice its original size. While it is bigger than Wishiwashi's school form, there is still one other aquatic beast that is even longer than this Legendary Pokemon in its Primal form.
5. Mega Steelix (34'05")
Steelix gets an even mightier form! This is Mega Steelix, a transformation that is only made possible by holding a Mist Stone. Originally over thirty feet long, you best bet that Steelix's Mega Evolution is even larger. Now the tallest of all Steel and Ground Pokemon, it appears ultra massive, faster and more furious, with added crystals, ridges, blades and all kinds of sharp edges. Let's not forget its overall size increase, as Mega Steelix stands at a whopping 34'05"! Now that's what you call a 'glow up'!
4. Mega Rayquaza (35'05")
You've seen Rayquaza, now meet Mega Rayquaza! Just a foot longer than Mega Steelix, Rayquaza is one of the few Legendary Pokemon in the game that can Mega Evolve, and that only adds to its length and power. When players want to show off, they use Mega Rayquaza. This is the strongest dragon-type Pokémon in the game, and boy is he worth it! In the game, no Pokémon comes with higher base stats; in fact, most Pokémon doesn't even come close to him. Only Mewtwo's Mega forms match Mega Rayquaza when it comes to base stats. Regular Rayquaza is a powerful and ultra long flying dragon-type as it is, but it obviously cannot compare to its Mega Evolution. In contrast to the regular Rayquaza, Mega Rayquaza is over ten feet longer and features flowing whisker-like appendages that accentuate its length further. Rayquaza can Mega Evolve into Mega Rayquaza if it knows Dragon Ascent, but only if it is not holding a Z-Crystal.
3. Alolan Exeggutor (35'09")
This amazing Pokemon is an expert at camoflage and appears exactly like a palm tree! After all, there are other techniques aside from breaking in headfirst and storming the arena. This plant like Pokemon is one of the top three tallest in the whole franchise, yet goes mostly unnoticed, thanks to its amazing ability to blend in with its surroundings, in the tropical themed Alola Region. Its Eggxtremely long neck is what makes the Alolan variant so tall, reaching a height up to 35'09". It was also the first Alolan species introduced to Pokemon GO!
2. Wailord (47'07")
Inspired by the blue whale in real life, Wailord also pays homage to its gigantic size and is the largest Pokemon in the Pokemon realm, just like the blue whale in real life! With the unique capacity and capability to consume a whole school of Wishiwashi at a time, it measures in at a whopping height of 47'07"! Known as the Float Whale Pokémon, Wailord is naturally a Water Type and is the largest Pokemon ever to be identified. It's actually light in relation to its size! It swims and travels the seas of the Hoenn region eating huge amounts of smaller Pokémon like Wishiwashi. Like our real life dolphins, packs of Wailord are said to use their giant Zeppelin-like forms to create massive splashes and huge water disturbances that help them herd their prey. The spectacle of a leaping Wailord in the wilds is said to be a magical sight! Although one would also probably need to bring an umbrella!
1. Eternatus (65'07")
When it comes to the single tallest Pokemon in eight generations, it's no contest. Known as the "Gigantic Pokemon," Eternatus has a height of 65'07", which is enough to blow even Wailord away.
Eternatus' incredible height stems from the fact that fragments of its own body fuel the phenomena of Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing. And to be even more extreme, its own unique Eternamax form is measured as a height of 328'01".
