Best Princesses in Anime Shows
21. Hakuei Ren from Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
The former Kou Empire's first Imperial Princess and Dungeon Capturer, Hakuei seems like the perfect princess. Although she isn’t a main character in the anime, she certainly leaves an impression with her beautiful appearance, wisdom and strong sense of justice and moral compass. Not only a capable army commander of the Kou Empire, she is a powerful magi who’s able to summon strong tornadoes through her Djinn. She wears traditional feminine robes with lightweight metal armor. She also carries a fan of white feathers which is also her metal vessel.
20. Millhiore Firianno Biscotti from Dog Days
This pink haired anime loli cutie is Millhiore, who represents the Biscotti Republic. Huh, a republic with a monarchy? Well, anime world is just like that. She summons Shinku Izumi, a student from Kinokawa International School to become the Republic’s defender – she chose him not because she saw him defeat the Yakuza but just because he’s really good at high jump! Milihiore is kind and hardworking, if a little inexperienced for a leader. But hey she’s only 13! She is well-loved by her people and is also a talented singer who holds concerts despite her status.
19. Carla/Charles from Fairy Tail
Fairy Tail has a lot of powerful female leads.
But Charles takes this spot because, well, she’s the only princess in the series.
She also kicks butt, too!
Yep, you’re looking at a cat. Charles is an Exceed from the alternate universe of Edolas, who are beings who look like a talking cat… that hatched from an egg. Only in anime! While Charles never grew up in royalty, she still carries herself quite well and is really powerful.
She inherited her mother’s pre-vision powers, making her the second strongest Exceed in the series. (Panther Lily takes first in power, obviously. Sorry Happy!)
18. Lilliane von Phoenix from Kaibutsu Oujo
Usually known as Hime, she is the main female protagonist of the series and the second princess of the Royal Family. Seventeen years old at the beginning of the series, she despises her own name and prefers being called "Hime" (姫, lit. Princess), which is the Japanese title for a lady of royal birth. It is a nickname given by her older sister, Sylvia. She has blonde hair and red eyes with slit pupils. Her hair is about waist-length and she wears a silver tiara. She almost always wears a black gothic dress, which has been her signature outfit since childhood. The gauntlets were added later.
17. Relena Peacecraft from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
Originally a spoiled and pampered princess when we meet her at the start of the series, Relena goes through a lot of character development and transformation throughout the anime, beginning with the discovery that she is the lone female heir of the Sanc Kingdom, whose Royal Family was all but annihilated for advocating for global demilitarization.
It's a really in depth storyline that details an important character transformation - as it is documented that one needs to have a pure heart to be a real princess. Relena goes on to defend peace at all costs, with the help of her friend, Gundam pilot Heero Yuy.
16. Asseylum Vers Allusia from Aldnoah.Zero
This dainty princess really looks the part, dressed in one of her flowy white gowns, and has a kind and peaceful temperment. She strives for peace and to see the best in people and is caring, and compassionate. However, she is also naive, believing that if her grandfather found out that she was still alive, that the war would end. Asseylum later realizes her naivety, and that certain people of VERS were only using her as an excuse to start a war with Earth.
She also seems to have a bold and decisive side. She is not particularly guarded around others, being quickly open and friendly. Asseylum appears to prioritize the safety of others over herself and takes her position as the Princess of VERS seriously.
15. Pina Co Lada from Gate
The 19-year-old daughter of the Emperor Molt Sol Augustus and Countess Nell, she is also the leader of Rose-Order of Knights. Despite her quirky and playful name, when we first meet her in the anime she is seen as serious and stern, but after spending some time together with Itami she discovered otaku culture and was greatly influenced by it. She is passionate about maintaining peace and is the only anime princess who became an anime fan herself! She has beautiful red hair and matching eyes, with a pretty tiara or elven like crown or head adornment.
14. Sakura from Tsubasa Chronicles
Sakura is an incredibly multifaceted and mysterious character in the anime, there is so much depth to her, making her a fascinating character to watch and cementing a whole fandom based around her. For one thing, "Sakura" is not her real name, her true name said to be Tsubasa, the same as "Syaoran Li"'s. Her false name means "Cherry blossom" while her real name means "wings" in Japanese. Her character and personality change as the story progresses, and we can’t help rooting for her in the anime.
13. Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth
Speaking of royal girls, nothing says royalty like having a huge responsibility that you’re prepared to turn your back on – for the sake of love.
Princess Emaraude is the pillar that holds Cephiro together.
The condition of her heart affects the land’s well-being, so she doesn’t really have the liberty to follow her own desires.
But of course, she finds a way.
And luckily she’s got three magical beings (and all of us) on her side.
12. Latifa Fleuranza from Amagi Brilliant Park
An anime princess that looks like Rapunzel, or kind of like an anime Sleeping Beauty, is this beautiful blonde anime princess Latifa. This princess also doubles as a general manager, so is definitely more of a modern day princess, fiercely intelligent, hands on and determined to boot. She is kind hearted and loyal, deeply passionate about, and dedicated to, the success of her amusement park, to keep it running smoothly for everyone to enjoy. She is an amazing anime role model, showing that true royalty needs no saving, but is responsible for writing her own story.
11. Stephanie Dola from No Game No Life
The princess of Elkia, the land of the human species, she hates to lose and is proud and often acts without thinking about the consequences. She hopes to carry on the wishes of her grandfather, the former king, and save Elkia from the brink of extinction. She's also good at making sweets.
Stephanie is expressive and emotional, wearing her heart on her sleeve to the point where she cannot hide her emotions during a poker game. She loved her grandfather dearly and is angered when people call her grandfather a fool. She has shoulder length red hair and wears a beautiful blue flower decoration.
10. Euphemia Li Britannia from Code Geass
There never could be a name more suited to royalty than Euphemia's! The best thing about Princess Euphie (aside from her iconic pink hairstyle) is her kind heart and respectful treatment of everyone. She is open minded and has a universal respect that probably stems from her own childhood experiences with her siblings Lelouch vi Britannia and Nunnally vi Britannia whose mother wasn't from the nobility and thus were looked upon with disdain by the other members of the Britannian Imperial Family.
9. Lucia Nanami from Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch
Lucia Nanami, princess of the North Pacific Ocean, will have you singing, laughing, and crying along.
She takes on the tall order of reuniting the seven mermaid princesses to protect the seven seas, while also seeking the guy she saved and fell in love with seven years ago.
Her smiling face and optimistic personality will reel you right in.
But you’ll admire her more for her grit, resilience, and strong heart.
8. Cornelia Li Britannia from Code Geass
Cornelia is pretty much the exact opposite of Euphemia, as a ruthless fighter and extremely capable in combat, but that doesn't mean she is a cruel and cold character altogether. Throughout the anime we see more and more of a caring side to her, who prizes human lives and we see her want to fight to protect her people. She is the elder sister to Euphemia and is protective, loyal and a great defender of her people and the things that mean the most to her. She is beautiful but deadly, with long, fuchsia hair.
7. Nefertari Vivi from One Piece
This iconic princess anime character is the princess of Arabasta. She is the daughter of Nefertari Cobra and Titi. During her childhood, Vivi was part of the Suna Suna Clan, being the vice-leader of the group led by her friend Koza. She is often recognised by her sky blue hair and beautiful medieval style gowns. She is incredibly kindhearted and compassionate, being the only princess to join the Strawhats and there, caring deeply for each of her crewmates. A thoughtful character with a pure heart, she always brings a smile to everyone she meets. She always tries hard and that's what counts.
6. Princess Tutu from Princess Tutu
Princess Tutu, you could say, is possibly the most well known and iconic anime princess - she even has a series named after her! Here we walk in to a real life fairytale with talking cats and crocodiles! It's also a little like the story of the ugly duckling who turns into a pretty swan, Princess Tutu is actually about a duck who transforms into a talented prima ballerina, who helps people through her awesome dance moves! And of course, Princess Tutu has a mission: to collect her beloved’s heart. A really fun fairytale magical girl adventure anime! It's innocent and fun with plenty of comedy, action, and romance, a wonderful classic anime tale!
5. Mei Chang from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
This loli anime princess is extremely brave, courageous and such a unique character to watch! Despite being so small, Mei is tasked to carry the entire Chang clan on her young back. Now that's a lot of responsibility! Mei is a forward thinking princess who relies on her own actions to tell her own story and earn her royal title, instead of the status she is born in to, which is really admirable. She is a really badass loli character, making her the perfect anime princess; it’s next to impossible to not root for the feisty Mei Chang and her ever-loyal pet panda, Xiao-Mei.
4. Yona Akatsuki from Akatsuki no Yona
Yona boasts some of the most satisfying moments in anime, as well as one of the most satisfying character transformations! She is first introduced as a selfish character, deeply pampered, oblivious to others around her and thoroughly annoying as a result, as the Crown princess of Kouka Kingdom, the only heir of Emperor Il and Queen Kashi, and the reincarnation of King Hiryuu. However, on her 16th birthday, she was forced to flee Hiryuu Castle as a fugitive after her father was murdered by her cousin Soo-Won, who in turn usurped the throne and became king. She must slowly learn to face the truths of the world after countless trials and misadventures, and, through some amazing moments in the anime, Yona starts to take control of her own destiny. This is so worth a watch!
3. San from Princess Mononoke
If the West has their Pocahontas, well Japan has San from Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke.
She’s basically a child of nature, being raised by wolves and quickly becoming a royalty among the Wolf Gods. Or maybe the anime princess version of the Jungle Book? Despite being a strongwoman, San falls in love with protagonist Prince Ashitaka.
This gives us a well-balanced mix of love and adventure - which in this case led to the peace among humans and nature. By all accounts, San is a memorable character to fall in love with and root for throughout the anime!
2. Nausicaa from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
A millennium has passed since the catastrophic nuclear war named the "Seven Days of Fire," which destroyed nearly all life on Earth. Humanity now lives in a constant struggle against the treacherous jungle that has evolved in response to the destruction caused by mankind. Away from the jungle exists a peaceful farming kingdom known as the "Valley of the Wind," whose placement by the sea frees it from the spread of the jungle's deadly toxins. The Valley's charismatic young princess, NausicaƤ, finds her tranquil kingdom disturbed when an airship from the kingdom of Tolmekia crashes violently in the Valley. After NausicaƤ and the citizens of the Valley find a sinister pulsating object in the wreckage, the Valley is suddenly invaded by the Tolmekian military, who intend to revive a dangerous weapon from the Seven Days of Fire. Now NausicaƤ must fight to stop the Tolmekians from plunging the Earth into a cataclysm which humanity could never survive, while also protecting the Valley from the encroaching forces of the toxic jungle. One of the most hands on anime princesses, she can easily defend herself in combat, but it is peace that she longs for. Brave, courageous, but also diplomatic, she remains not just one of the most badass anime princesses but one of the most cherished anime characters in history.
1. Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon
One of the best female role models in anime and coolest characters out there is Usagi Tsukino herself, otherwise known as Sailor Moon! She is such a relatable character in the anime, which makes her so charming. She often doubts herself, is somewhat of a klutz, and had to be saved by the enigmatic Tuxedo Mask a few times.
But this makes her incredibly multifaceted as an anime princess, and paints an honest and realistic picture. As the series develops, we see her confidence grow as she proves to herself that she deserves to take on the role of Sailor Moon. The earth’s toughest defender against evil, she can take incredible credit for shaping the minds of a whole generation of women across the globe.
