10. Rewrite
Kazamatsuri, a modern, well-developed city renowned for its burgeoning greenery and rich Japanese culture, is home to Kotarou Tennouji, a high schooler least privy to the place's shared values. Content to fill his pockets with frivolity, the proud and nosey boy whiles away his time pestering the self-proclaimed delinquent Haruhiko, and trying to woo his crush, the oddball Kotori. But equipped with the superhuman ability to permanently rewrite any part of his body to multiply his strength or speed, Kotarou is naturally drawn to the supernatural.
One special meeting with the lone member and president of the Occult Research Club, the "Witch" Akane Senri, leads to Kotarou reviving the Occult Club by recruiting Kotori and three other members: the clumsy transfer student Chihaya, the strict class representative Lucia, and the unassuming Shizuru. As Kotarou unveils hidden secrets of each member of the Occult Club through their shared adventures, he will inevitably encounter a fate that only he might be able to rewrite... It's easy to get lost in this world where green grasses and beautiful trees coexists with the hustle and bustle of city life. The colours on screen are a sight to behold, as the greys of buildings counterpoints the intense greens of nature. Definitely an anime for a binge watch!
9. Trinity Seven
Trinity Seven, much like Rewrite, is also based upon a manga of the same name. The characters are easily the best part of this romantic comedy harem series. They are so easy to fall in love with, especially Lilith’s adorable reactions to anything and everything.
The plot is also intriguing. After Arata Kasuga’s childhood town is destroyed due to the Black Sun Gravitational event, he is thrust into a world of magic and mystery. Here is where he meets a host of interesting and well-developed characters, enlisting in a high school for mages.
The opening theme, Seven Doors, also certainly deserves a special mention. It sets the tone for the entire anime, with its heaving guitar in the background of strong vocals. Much like the anime, it is quite simply: epic.
8. Mayo Chiki!
Due to his mother and sister, who both love professional wrestling, Kinjirou Sakamachi developed a resilient body that could take hard punches, aggressive kicks, and even deadly vehicle bumps, in order to survive their various grappling positions and locks. However, he also developed gynophobia, an abnormal fear of women. With just one touch from a girl, his nose bleeds uncontrollably, he sweats excessively, and in rare cases, faints abruptly.
His life changes for the worse because of a fated meeting in the restroom. While trying to escape from a girl, he discovers that the most popular student in their school, Subaru Konoe—the butler of the headmaster’s daughter, Kanade Suzutsuki—is actually female! Surprised, Subaru violently assaults Kinjirou, dealing significant damage and knocking him unconscious. When he comes to, he meets Kanade. In exchange for his silence, she promises to help cure his phobia. This is such a fun and silly anime, with many hilarious moments and some amazing messages at its centre. This one will entertain you for days!
7. Shuffle!
Shuffle! is an excellent harem anime that brought together unique characters, a strong feeling of drama, and a rather unexpected conclusion. Originally an adult game released in 2004, it is written and thought out so cleverly and the end result is an anime composed of all of the characters arcs and storylines in the game coming together to create something gorgeous and interesting.
There are so many themes, of friendship, romance, with ideas about immigration and good-hearted demons or vindictive angels - plus a schoolboy trapped between worlds of gods and demons whilst also trying to study his hardest and come to terms with relationships. This anime is anything but standard making it well worth a watch.
6. Strike the Blood
In this anime woven with harem vibes, Akatsuki Kojou’s days as an ordinary high school student came to an end when it was discovered that he is the fourth primogenitor, giving him the remarkable abilities of a vampire with immeasurable power; according to the world his existence is only a legend. Fearing Kojou's destructive potential, the Lion King Organization sends in an apprentice attack mage named Yukina Himeragi, to monitor, and should he become a threat to the world, kill the boy deemed the most powerful vampire. Though Yukina’s job is to keep an eye on Akatsuki Kojou, they end up forming an unlikely couple and he always manages to get in to some kind of ecchi situation in the anime with Yukina!
5. Hajimete no Gal (My First Girlfriend is a Gal)
The only qualm of this anime is that it is short, but this harem high school anime is new and will have your eyes glued to the screen from the very first moment to the last! It is a hilarious coming of age anime, taking the best elements of the funny and the erotic and turns it into something even funnier and even more subtle.
There are characters to love and characters you will love to hate! It packs some golden old school charm, beautiful simplicity in this coming of age comedy, packed in to a modern animation style. Junichi Hashiba wants a girlfriend. He’s upset to see everyone coupling up and so he’s pushed into confessing his love for Yukana Yame. Of course, it’s not that simple. As soon as he couples up with her he begins attracting other girls.
4. Rosario & Vampire
A supernatural romantic comedy that explores the misadventures of Tsukune in Yokai Academy, a normal school that only has one rule “All humans found on campus to be executed immediately.” It’s because Yokai Academy is a boarding school where monsters go to learn to cleverly blend in amongst humankind. Tsukune Aono is an average teenager who is unable to get into any high school because of his bad grades. His parents inadvertently enroll him into Youkai Academy as a last-ditch effort to secure his education. As Tsukune unknowingly enters this new world, he has a run-in with the most attractive girl on campus, Moka Akashiya.
Deciding to stay in the perilous realm in order to further his relationship with Moka, he does not realize that beneath her beauty lies a menacing monster - a vampire. Rosario to Vampire is a supernatural school comedy that explores Tsukune's romantic exploits, experiences, and misadventures with a bevy of beautiful but dangerous creatures.
3. High School DxD
Highschool DxD has everything you could wish for in a High School Harem anime. With an interesting art style, hilarious and well-developed characters, supernatural elements and love triangles and an epic soundtrack, there is so much to love for everyone! I definitely recommend checking out this one, you won't regret it. We meet Issei Hyodo, who has a reputation. A schoolboy with girls on the brain, at first glance this all girl’s school that’s he recently transferred to seems like the perfect choice... until he realizes what he’s gotten himself into. The school harbors a secret. Demons.
Issei’s character never goes overboard in the wrong way, however. He is shown to be a stereotypical teenage boy but he has a good heart and strives to see the bigger picture.
This anime is daring and controversial, and where it dares, it succeeds.
2. Seiren (Honesty)
For high school students like Shouichi Kamita, university entrance exams and the future are common concerns. It is also during this time in life that a mysterious emotion that vexes people of all ages may begin to weigh upon one's mind—love.
At this point in his teenage years, Shouichi finds three girls he could see himself having a future with: the ever-cheerful Hikari Tsuneki, who teases Shouichi without mercy, but actually has a softer side; the competitive gamer, Tooru Miyamae, who has difficulty communicating with others; and Shouichi's childhood friend, Kyouko Touno, the sometimes immature shoujo manga enthusiast. Seiren follows Shouichi's relationships with these three girls across three separate arcs, as their feelings grow from mutual interest and blossom into something more beautiful. It’s a joy to watch as the characters grapple with entirely new situations each time, with a butterfly effect – like plot underlining and tying each strand together!
1. Highschool of the Dead
This high school harem anime is about high school students overwhelmed with the start of the zombie apocalypse, but it's so much more. We see Takashi and Rei band together with other students on a journey to find their family members and uncover what caused this overwhelming pandemic. Joining them is Saeko Busujima, the beautiful president of the Kendo Club; Kouta Hirano, an otaku with a fetish for firearms; Saya Takagi, the daughter of an influential politician; and Shizuka Marikawa, their alluring school nurse. But will the combined strength of these individuals be enough to conquer this undead apocalypse? This high school harem anime ticks every box for a good story, the perfect amount of humour and slightly cringe at times, the perfect amount of funny and heartfelt and beautiful! It is blessed with an incredible art style, which makes it such a treat to watch! It also has an amazing soundtrack - pretty much everything you could wish for in an amazing anime! Of course, one of Highschool of the Dead's major defining characteristics is its firm place in the subgenre of “harem” anime, which tends to emphasize love triangles or even polyamory. In this case, a prominent sub-plot is the love triangle between Takashi, Rei, and Saeko.
