All the female anime characters with glasses 101! Glasses have a reputation for hiding one's alter ego, but what if they were part of people's alter ego... just as glasses may conceal, they may also promote one's true, kickass identity, because seeing in 4k is a superpower many take for granted. If you’re looking for girls in anime that wear glasses, all the anime girls in glasses, I have definitely got you covered. Let’s see how beautiful they are in their non blurry existence!
Best Anime Girls with Glasses
30. Sheele from Akame ga Kill
With her electric lavender hair, Sheele is a very dangerous contender, complete with a ruthless assassin mindset. Don't let her 'lost my glasses' act fool you, only a select few are allowed in to her inner circle, where she becomes more or less the heart and soul of the group and is the gentle character who becomes the shoulder to cry on for others in the group. Despite this, we have to remember her huge body count and her position as a cold, impassive and 'talented killer'.
29. Manami Okuda from Assassination Classroom
As the name may suggest, we have another spectacled assassin on our hands! Okuda is very shy and struggles with the usual up-front way of dealing with Koro-sensei, guns and snipers just aren’t her thing.
However, she’s extremely intelligent and proficient in chemistry. So she can whip out the best poison this world has seen since… never mind.
The mad chemist dandere is definitely not something you see every day, but she is pretty iconic.
28. Sumireko Sanshokuin from ORESUKI Are you the only one who loves me?
Sumireko is sometimes called by her nickname 'Pansy' and she is a second year High School student and a helper in the school library who is in love with Amatsuyu Kisaragi (nicknamed Joro) and the object of affection of Taiyo Oga and Yasuo Hazuki in the anime. At school, Pansy looks like a petite and plain girl with chest-length black hair that is tied in low twin braids with bangs hanging on the right side, light blue eyes, thick black square-rimmed glasses and she has an infamy for looking gloomy. In truth, she is a gorgeous beauty with hip-length hair and an enviable figure that she keeps hidden. Pansy shows herself to be a well-mannered smooth-talker with good advice and a level head, polite to others, as well as a lovable beauty queen. The series centers around Joro, a guy pretending to be the “nice guy” who’s really trying to build a harem. Then Pansy comes along and is genuinely interested in Jouro, and not the fake persona he lets everyone else believe in.
27. Hange Zoë from Attack on Titan
A genius anime character with an androgenous appearance, however you see Hange in the anime or manga (in the manga it was never distinguished whether Hange was a female or not), they are definitely deserving of a place here! Completely and utterly married to her work, she has wide, light brown eyes and shoulder length dark brown hair often kept tied up in an unkempt high ponytail with bangs parted down the middle. She possesses an undying curiosity that seems to trample any ethics or norms and it's fair to say she is pretty badass!
26. Moeka Kiryuu from Steins;Gate
Moeka Kiryuu is a fascinating character to watch because she has nothing to lose and will therefore stop at nothing to fulfill her goals! A part-time editor whom Rintaro Okabe encounters in Akiba, she is practically glued to her phone and cannot function without it. Even when face to face, Moeka prefers to communicate by email, to the point where if her phone is taken away, she will almost refuse to speak until her phone is returned. She is elegant and attractive, with pale skin, light brown hair and wears rectangular glasses.
25. Yuki Nagato from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
The third person to join the SOS Brigade, at first glance, she appears to be an introverted, taciturn bibliophile, but she has more to reveal than meets the eye... Yuki is one of those fakers that don’t really need glasses, but she does really suit them and looks really cute wearing them! Yuki is very short, compared to the rest of her friends, with short jagged purple hair which never grows and golden brown eyes. She used to wear glasses but stopped after Kyon told her she looked better without them - boo!
24. Saya Takagi from Highschool of the Dead
Following the age old stereotype of being the bespectacled genius within the group, Saya is genuinely incredible within her own right, as essential to the group as Machinegun Kohta and the Sadistic samurai. Her high level of intellect can also cause her to be stubborn and very arrogant - maybe if one is a genius, everyone else seems slow in comparison, which could get on one's nerves a lot? She usually stays out of combat, preferring to think of strategies to help the others fight. However, this changes when the group prepares to leave the police station. Her pink haired appearance is pretty badass - why should anime girls with glasses always look straight from a library! (Although that's cool too)
23. Mirai Kuriyama from Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary)
She is such a dandere I can’t handle the cuteness.
You see, in her world there is a profession called the Spirit World Warriors. It’s their job to hunt Youmu. And that’s usually how they make a living.
But being the ball of fluff that she is, Kuriyama really doesn’t want to even encounter Youmu, let alone fight them.
What does that mean?
The greatest antagonist of all, financial instability, wooo. I also love the fact she hangs her heart on her sleeve. She couldn’t lie if her life depended on it. Embrace the awkwardness, we love you for it.
22. Shino Asada (Sinon) from Sword Art Online II
Shino is a skilled Virtual Reality game player, who began playing Gun Gale Online based on the suggestion from her friend, Shinkawa Kyouji, in an attempt to overcome her trauma concerning guns. After the events of the Phantom Bullet Arc, she began playing ALfheim Online as a Cait Sith archer, capable of hitting targets two hundred meters away with a bow that should only be able to shoot arrows accurately at a maximum distance of one hundred meters. I mean, you have to love your gamer girls.
Even though Shino doesn’t wear glasses in the virtual world, she does in real life. So it counts!
The best way to describe her is “cool as a cucumber”, which is to be expected from an A-class sniper.
21. Homura Akemi from Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica
A magical girl who first appears in an apocalyptic nightmare of Madoka's, she transfers into her school the day after the dream. She is a beautiful, mysterious individual, very talented, yet seems to be a lone wolf. Her character, in the beginning, is presented in a typical tsundere way, yet later revealed that deep down, she is secretly crying out for help and has been feeling weighed down and deeply troubled. She carries the burden of witnessing so much suffering during her tenure as a Magical Girl, that she has tried to block out for most of her life.
20. Kasumi Nomura from Asobi Asobase
Kasumi is the classmate of Olivia and Hanako Honda who is mostly depicted as a quiet and shy person, but she possesses a scary personality when she becomes serious and a member of the Pastimers Club. I always love how she looks submissive and shy in appearance, but possesses something different under the surface! Kasumi is a cute and slender pale-skinned girl with chin-length black hair, light brown eyes, she is most often seen wearing glasses that completes her shy bookworm appearance and a large bust that has earned her the jealousy of Hanako Honda.
19. Koyomi Mizuhara from Azumanga Daioh
I thought my anime vocabulary was somewhat decent until I stumbled upon Koyomi and the word maganekko. And no, it’s not a cat that voted for Trump (it is also spelled meganekko but I had to make that joke).
It’s actually a character whose charm and visual appeal are tightly connected to them wearing glasses. The more you know.
Koyomi definitely fits the bill here, as her maturity contrasts very nicely with her friends. And her occasional bursts of chaotic energy make her just a bit more dynamic.
School grades have probably shortened her life by a few years. But that’s just most people, I think.
18. Yomiko Readman from Read Or Die
Yomiko is an incredible reader and is able to power through a huge number of books in a short space of time. Book lovers assemble! The clue may be also in her name, I guess. She is a cute character who is secretly extremely badass and must regularly propel herself into dangerous situations, and who also reminds me of Velma. Yomiko is also a field agent for the Special Operations Division. She is a Papermaster, a person with the ability to bend paper material to her will. The user can create, shape and manipulate paper and/or paper-like substances, such as papyrus or parchment. She can make paper bulletproof or sharper than the sharpest sword. If she has enough paper, then she can construct a giant paper airplane that flies. The only limit to the effects she can create is her own imagination, which is super cool.
17. Tamako Arai from Barakamon
The older sister of Akihiko Arai, she is an aspiring mangaka who draws her own horror manga, which for us is so super cool! Tamako has the appearance of a seemingly sweet girl with blackish-brown hair that is tied in thin pigtails with bangs covering her forehead, brown eyes and oval-framed glasses.
While seen wearing casual clothes, she also wears the uniform of the school her and Miwa Yamamura attend, which consists of a sailor fuku-style top that has black on the collar with a red line going through it, a black pleated skirt, and brown loafers with mid calf socks. She can be mischevious but there is a mature and truly empathetic side to her too.
16. Nina Einstein from Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
Nina is 17 years old (18 at R2) and is a shy and quiet, yet later maniacal, student at Ashford Academy and a member of the Student Council. In Code Geass R2, she goes to work for the government and create weapons for them. She is the creator of the weapon of mass destruction F.L.E.I.J.A. and later, the countermeasure to it. She also has a definite Jackal and Hyde situation going on, as she’s both this nice innocent girl that keeps to her books and doesn’t draw attention to herself, but also Oppenheimer in disguise. I guess for the show purposes, this makes her interesting to watch and especially multifaceted as a character - plus the list wouldn't be complete with just “happily ever after, all sunshine and rainbow” characters on this list. It needed a little grit. Nina fills that role perfectly.
15. Shizuku from Hunter x Hunter
All the Velma vibes, but I can't help it! Shizuku is an integral part and member n.8 of the Phantom troupe, a hilarious yet fitting leg of this spider. She is very calm, but can also appear callous and blunt at times, but believes strongly in keeping the peace amongst the group. She also has a possessed vacuum as a weapon, which is amazing but also hilarious in equal parts! It’s like a samurai, giant muscle dude, copycat ninja, and then a vacuum cleaner from hell. Its name is Blinky (which sounds like Jinkies - Velma senses in overdrive!)
14. Sheska from Fullmetal Alchemist
Sheska could go head to head with Yomiko Readman for reading books! We really are assembling an Avengers team of book lovers! She is a huge reader and loves to read wherever and whenever and her favourite thing is beginning a brand new read. She even lost her job as a librarian due to being fired for reading too much on the job. She also has a photographic memory and is able to save the day for the other characters in the anime. Who says reading isn't a superpower! When we meet her she has a low self esteem, but we see her grow in confidence ever more throughout the anime, which is so amazing to see.
13. Maiko Oogure from Kill la Kill
Maiko is a No-Star student who was the Head of the Trap Department of the Disciplinary Committee. After Ira Gamagōri heard of her plan to overthrow Satsuki Kiryūin, he stripped her of her rank and expelled her from the school. A slender girl with shaggy black hair with spiky bangs and red eyes, she also wears glasses with large, rectangular frames. She is super realistic and relatable and so human in the anime, the writers so cleverly explore her character to reveal so many depths and hilarious pitfalls aswell, that we all go through! This character truly is a gem.
12. Yumi Azusa from Soul Eater
Yumi is the Death Weapon in charge of East Asia and later Oceania in Marie Mjolnir's place. She is also one of the DWMA's Eight Mysteries. Azusa appears to be both bookish and analytical in her mannerisms but always very respectful towards everyone. She still treats the others that attended the DWMA with her as little kids like a teacher would (clapping to get their attention and telling them to line up and walk in a single file line), much to the embarrassment of the others. As a Death Scythe, Azusa is one of the most powerful Demon Weapons within the series. Her level of ability as a Gun-Type Weapon has garnered praise from fellow Gun-Type Weapon, Liz Thompson, who claimed that no other Gun-Type Weapon is as good, and that Azusa is the "bee's knees" for other Gun-Type Weapons.
11. Tashigi from One Piece
Tashigi is a Marine officer serving under Vice Admiral Smoker in the base of G-5. She was originally introduced as a Master Chief Petty Officer in Loguetown but was promoted to Ensign after the events in Arabasta. During the timeskip, she was promoted to Captain. She is a rowdy sword master who charges into battle headfirst and is unwilling to give up even if she’s beaten to a pulp. She hates being looked down on more than anything and is definitely not your typical glasses-wearing bookworm!
10. Saya Kisaragi from Blood-C
Saya would definitely get along well with Tashigi. When she’s being her honest self, that is.
Because like your average anime Hannah Montana, Saya lives a double life of a normal high school girl and a badass fighter.
She also wields a katana, just saying. Tashigi would totally be into that.
When she’s not killing blood-sucking demons, however, she definitely seems more in line with the “female with glasses” archetype: submissive, kind, and smart.
9. Miyuki Takara from Lucky☆Star
And we’re back into the realm of book-loving and kindness.
Miyuki is such a cute anime girl character, her hair is bubblegum pink and cascades down in waves, she adores reading and she plays the healing, shoulder to cry on role in the group. She is incredibly kind, gentle and soft-spoken, often found daydreaming or away with the fairies or even nodding off when nothing of importance is happening. One might imagine she smells of strawberries and collects plushies.
8. Tsubasa Hanekawa from Bakemonogatari
Tsubasa is Koyomi Araragi's classmate, close friend, and a class representative in Naoetsu Private High School. She is known at school as an overachiever and model student who is admired by many. However, hidden by her achievements in school and her kind personality is a tense family life caused by unfortunate circumstances. She is positive, kind and softly spoken; in the anime we see her getting cuter and stronger as the plot continues!
7. Kobayashi from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid
As a 9-5 office worker, she struggles to find her purpose. She finds herself not quite knowing where she belongs, her cool demeaner, pragmatism and suggestively masculine traits paint her as a tomboy, but she's not quite one of the bros either. One drunk night, she saves the life of a female dragon in distress, by pulling a sword out of her back. The dragon then shows up the next day and begs to be Kobayashi’s maid. As the series progresses, Kobayashi is thrust into adoptive motherhood, becomes guardian of earth and then a magician in the later manga chapters.
6. Anri Sonohara from Durarara!!
Anri is a petite bespectacled girl who attends Raira Academy with her close friends Mikado Ryuugamine and Masaomi Kida. Even though she is quiet and timid and possesses a tendency to seclude herself from others, she is intelligent, clever, and resourceful. In the second half of the show she really gets to shine and we get to see more depth to her character!
5. Yoko Littner from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Admittedly, Yoko isn't a full time glasses wearer and only dons a pair as part of her teacher attire - but she wears them perfectly! I don’t know why, but teacher Yoko is one of my all-time favourite characters. Her soft tone towards the children is nice, but her badass side is ready at a moment’s notice.
And switching from the bikini and sniper and to the plain shirt and glasses just fit this side of her so well.
4. Mey-Rin from Black Butler
Mey-Rin is a determined, strong-willed individual who seeks to prove her worth. Like the other Phantomhive servants, she is fiercely loyal to Ciel Phantomhive and deeply respects Sebastian Michaelis, whom she has a crush on because of his appreciation of who she is and her skills as a sniper. Upon working for Ciel, she is allowed to wear skirts, which pleases her, and she is given glasses, which she cherishes and refuses to replace with new ones. Then we learn that in a twist of irony, her glasses actually make it harder for her to see. So as you can imagine, the second the glasses dropped, utter chaos is unleashed. And Sebastian is no longer the only badass in the house.
3. Nemuri Kayama from Boku no Hero Academia
Nemuri is as cool as she looks, a Pro Hero and faculty member at U.A. High School, who taught Modern Hero Art History. Not only that, she fits right in amongst our Femdom Anime Shows picks, with her powers of seduction, dominatrix-looking hero costume, an upfront personality, and alluring figure, she is definitely a femme fatale figure, rebelling against that age old stereotype that girls with glasses are submissive.
She is even known to brandish a whip in combat!
2. Ursula Callistis from Little Witch Academia
Ursula is like a quieter, more realistic All Might, all she wants is to make people smile, and sees power only as a means to do that.
And just like All Might, a lot of eyes turn to her in times of need.
But that’s where realism sets in: not everyone is always going to smile. It’s just how life is.
This eventually cracks down on Ursula and she stepped down from the idol scene and became a teacher.
All Might’s fall from grace might have been more epic, but Ursula’s was way more human, a feeling writers should always aim for.
1. Sakie Satou from Interviews with Monster Girls
One of the cutest anime girls with glasses and tracksuits is Sakie Satou! In an anime with 'monster girls' in the title, she is a succubus hidden in plain sight. In Demi-chan wa Kataritai, she looks like a totally normal human being, albeit with an unusually voluptuous figure, but there is no way to tell she is anything but normal. She prefers to dress in a casual and informal way with her trademark red tracksuit and glasses combo and ponytail. Who says a succubus needs to dress up to have fun? Sakie could easily enjoy wreaking havoc at school, letting her powers affect every male student and faculty member, but she cares deeply about her actions and their consequences and is conscious of how her pheromones affect others.
