From the stinkest smelliest Pokemon out there, to the most dangerous Pokemon, don't underestimate the Poison Type Pokemon! They come in unreal colours, shapes and sizes and may look innocent enough but definitely approach at your own risk! Since these Pokemon are often based on real life poisonous critters it's only natural that this list features many a Snake Pokemon on here too! 25. Garbodor

A Poison type Pokémon from Generation 5, it is known as the Trash Heap Pokémon for… obvious reasons. Making Pokemon out of inanimate objects never fails to be creepy, as seen with these Ghost Type Pokemon designs! Even more creepy is that it eats rubbish or trash and the toxic liquid it launches from its right arm is so virulent that it can kill a weakened creature instantly. Ewwww! Still, I guess this Poison critter does send a strong message about the horrors of pollution. It hails from the Unova region and it is recommended to teach it Explosion so you don't have to look it anymore... ugggh!

24. Skuntank

Also known to be a particularly smelly Pokemon, Skunktank is a medium-sized mammalian Pokémon that resembles a skunk with the face of a cat! Loosely based on a skunk in real life, it carries the same smell as one too and creatures all over the world have been using their foul aroma as a deterrent ever since smelling was a thing. A dual Poison and Dark Type Pokemon from Generation 4, it is appropriately known as the Skunk Pokemon. This critter has perfected scent to the point where it’s Stench ability is capable of making even the strongest Pokémon flinch, plus has access to some pretty interesting moves like Toxic, Taunt, and Explosion, alongside access to the Aftermath ability, which will go on to damage an attacking Pokémon for 1/4th of its max HP if they knock out Skuntank with a contact move. More than just a bad smell, there is strategy underneath! 

23. Venomoth

A dual Bug/Poison type Pokémon from Generation 1, it is known as the Poison Moth Pokémon and is known to be nocturnal - it is a Pokémon that only becomes active at night. Its favorite prey are small insects that gather around streetlights and the powdery scales on its wings are hard to remove from skin, containing strong poison that leaks out on contact, which sounds like something from the Goosebumps books. Gruesome! Even by itself, a single Venomoth can be pretty dangerous, boasting excellent Sp. Attack and Speed which, coupled with access to the Quiver Dance move, can mean it becomes a fearsome sweeper in combat.

22. Drapion

Hiding in the dense dunes of the Sinnoh region’s deserts resides a dangerous creature known by the locals as the “Sand Demon”. A funny looking Scorpio like Pokemon from Generation 4, it is known as the Ogre Scorp Pokemon and is a dual Poison and Dark Type with an unusually long and strange looking body, which kind of reminds me when in horror moves sometimes peoples/creatures arms are seen to extend (usually in order to grab the protagonist). Not only are its claws strong enough to rip a car in half thanks to a solid Attack stat, but also has access to moves like Earthquake and Aqua Tail, providing it excellent coverage against most types. Desert dwellers are known to call this creature the 'Sand Demon' and you can definitely see why. Not only is it supremely creepy, it is good in combat and The Sniper ability takes its offensive capabilities further by powering up any critical hits Drapion manages to land. Even if its name does remind me of curtains.

21. Vileplume

Way less scary looking that our previous fellow, but just as dangerous, is Vileplume. This peculiar looking fellow, a dual Grass/Poison-type, is a veteran from the original Kanto region, reknowned for having the biggest petals in the Pokémon world. It’s based on the real world Corpse Flower, which is a giant flower with meaty petals found deep within the Amazon. It's especially well known for its retch-inducing scent that smells similar to a rotting animal carcass. Vileplume’s greatest value in battle lies in its solid survivability coupled with its Effect Spore ability, which can inflict either Sleep, Poison or Paralysis on any Pokémon that comes into contact with it. Super creative and unique - and definitely poisonous!

20. Arbok

Known as the Cobra Pokemon! A more frightening and venomous cobra creature, its name spells 'kobra' backwards, which is pretty indicative. Just like how many snakes in real life have unique patterns on their scales, the pattern on Arbok’s hood has over 20 possible designs, all of which make them even more scary looking, but this is so cool too. Like how real snakes catch their prey, Arbok uses its body to coil around opponents and crush them to immobilize them.

19. Seviper

Jessie’s Arbok served bravely with Team Rocket for several seasons, but eventually it was time to bring in some Pokémon from the all-new Hoenn region. And Seviper stepped in to carry on Arbok’s legacy, a super cool looking typical snake pokemon that has golden plates on its body and an epic tail and fangs, this Pokémon was designed to appear ferocious and terrifying to intimidate its opponents. Seviper are usually shown with their bodies scrunched up, which means they must be incredibly long, huge beasts at full length when stretched out, which gives me the creeps. As like many snakes in real life, this snake Pokémon is also poisonous and is known for its signature move, Poison Tail. Seviper is said to rival another Pokemon from the same generation, Pokémon Zangoose, which is designed as a mongoose (snakes like to eat mongoose kind in real life).

18. Weezing

A Poison type Pokémon from Generation 1, it is known as the Poison Gas Pokémon. To be honest with you, this guy has always been very disturbing to me. It just looks like two very, very unlucky Koffing that got stuck together. Probably some freak chemical accident. Still, it’s a classic. And people seem to love it. Weezing has decent Attack stats, but it shines for its amazing Defense and Levitate ability whch makes it completely impervious to Ground-type moves. That by itself is pretty incredible!

17. Galarian Weezing

In Pokémon Sword & Shield’s Galar region, Weezing has mutated into a classy-looking industrialist form that purifies the pollution around it and cleans the air. Weezing's new regional form turns it from a pure Poison-type to a dual Poison/Fairy-type. It is known to suck in air better than the original Weezing, but the toxins it produces are known to be less potent. 16. Tentacruel

Known as the Jellyfish Pokemon, this critter is a dual Water and Poison type from Generation 1, although looks a little more like an alien squid than it does a jellyfish. It attaches on to and catches prey easily with its 80 tentacles, a sight that would surely traumatize any onlookers. In battle it proves itself as a colossal beast, its main features are its high Sp. Defense and Speed, which let it take some damage while making sure to poison its enemy with moves like Acid or Poison Jab. Its powerful Hydro Pump will wear down opponents. They can usually be found whilst surfing in the Pokemon universe and will be sure to make an impression on any fellow sea dwellers with its gel like red bulges and bright blue shell.

15. Scolipede

A dual Bug/Poison type Pokémon from Generation 5, it is known as the Megapede Pokémon and is a highly poisonous and very aggressive Pokemon from the Unova region. It appears as like a large centerpede like monster raised on its hind legs. But if you manage to survive it and tame the beast, you’ll have yourself a solid physical fighter with access to a great variety of poisoning moves. Plus its Speed Boost ability and Swords Dance make it more dangerous with each passing turn! A lot of scary, big bugs in the Pokemon Universe, for sure, not to mention dangerous!

14. Crobat

The evolved version of Golbat, this Bat Pokemon can learn to fly in most games, meaning he can take you town to town on your adventure. This Pokemon from Generation 2 is definitely fierce and fast, able to be completely silent, he is one of the best hunters and a blood drinking bat at that! I remember it being a total slayer in Koga’s Elite Four team in that generation. Its evasion was so high, I had no option but to try over and over until I got lucky and one of my moves landed. Considering how silly Zubat is, you have to admit Crobat is a beast.

13. Salazzle

The inevitable rise of e-girls as our new overlords was represented in Pokémon Sun & Moon through the addition of Salazzle, the Toxic Lizard Pokémon. A dual Poison and Fire type first introduced in Generation 7, we all secretly really want her as our cosmetic Pet in World of Warcraft and equally want to be her in real life. I mention “her” because this Pokémon appears only as a female. Full of magical charm, she is known as the Toxic Lizard Pokemon, which seems pretty accurate and evolves from Salandit at level 33, having perfected the production and deployment of potent pheromones to attract male Salandit it can mate with. These pheromones can be distilled down and de-toxified to make perfumes. She even has the high flying career of being perfumer we always wanted to have. An excellent sweeper with high Sp. Attack and solid Defense, its ability Corrosion is also very unique, letting Salazzle poison Pokémon who might normally be immune, such as Steel and Poison types. Jealous much!

12. Toxicroak

With its powerful dual Poison and Fighting typing (the only evolutionary line in the whole franchise!), Toxicroak has its spot on this list assured. And there's more! Introduced in Generation 4, it is known as the Toxic Mouth Pokémon and the toxins it carries in its poison sac are so strong that even a single scratch from this beast can be enough to knock out most Pokémon. Along with its solid Attack and Speed stat, this comes through in battle from the Poison Touch ability, which can cause the Poison ailment just by coming into contact with Toxicroak. It also carries access to powerful poisoning moves like Gunk Shot, making it an incredibly viable option in battle.

11. Venusaur

Its evolutionary line is one of the Best Grass Starter Pokemon and with its solid stats and mega evolution, plus its type advantage against the first 2 gyms, there's no question as to why! A dual Grass/Poison Type Pokemon from 1, it is known as the Seed Pokemon and continues to bring a whole lot of value to the table. Its upgrade to Mega Venusaur takes its already powerful stats to a whole other level, giving it the Thick Fat ability, which provides some added resistance against Fire and Ice-type moves. It has such a cool design too!

10. Alolan Muk

This critter looks just like one of those slime videos for kids, where youtubers mix together a whole range of different coloured and textured slimes! This Alolan regional variant of Muk looks carnival ready with all its rainbow colours, although may look slightly lurid under some lighting. A colorful Pokemon from Pokemon Sun and Moon, it surpasses the original Muk with its interesting appearance. A dual Poison and Dark Type Pokemon, it can be easy to forget this cheerful looking creature is secretly a sentient glob of foul substances so toxic you could pass out just by coming into contact with them. It's just got better at hiding it. And now it does children's birthday parties. Not really. This rainbow-colored critter is gluttonous and will eat all the trash it can find, going so far as to prey on Garbodor! Maybe that is its secret, as it is pretty formidable in battle, with stellar defensive typing and above average special bulk making it an excellent special tank and one of the best Pursuit trappers in the tier, capable of providing valuable support to teams by removing threats such as Latias, Chandelure, and Gengar.

9. Nidoking & Nidoqueen

Both male and female Nido varieties can claim this spot! They are both incredible beast Pokemon with horns and scales, said to be so hard they could pierce diamonds. They are a little like the Ghost Pokemon Aegislash, in that one form is offense based (male) and the other is defense based (female). Nidoqueen is known to have a super protective and defensive stance, only getting truly aggressive if something messes with its young. They both boast an incredible dual Poison/Ground-typing and benefit from the Sheer Force ability, which removes additional effects from moves in exchange for more raw power. Both forms are known as the Drill Pokemon and hail from Generation 1 and are pretty much legends in their own right.

8. Toxapex

No, you’re not looking at an enemy from Dark Souls’ Lake of Ash - it’s just Toxapex. However, that doesn’t mean it’s any less terrifying. This Poison/Water-type Pokémon is known for crawling across the ocean floor looking for the adorable Corsola so it can crush it and consume its innards. Big yikes. Not many people are aware of how much of an asset Toxapex can be with the right moves thanks to its insane Defense and Sp. Defense. It also has access to Baneful Bunker, a signature move that makes it impervious to damage for a turn, and poisons whoever comes into contact with it.

7. Naganadel

An ultra beast of a Pokemon with the best design ever, this dual Poison and Dragon Type Pokemon from Generation 7 is known as the Poison Pin Pokemon and also as an Ultra Beast. While all other Ultra Beasts have come into the Pokémon world in their mature state, Naganadel is known to evolve from Poipole once it can learn Dragon Pulse, making it the only Ultra Beast with an evolution line. Naturally it boasts insanely high stats, especially when it comes to Sp. Attack and Speed. One of the best sweeper Pokemon to take in to combat - a bit too good. Definitely one of the most op Pokemon out there!

6. Nihilego

Speaking of the most overpowered Pokemon, Nihilego is another known Ultra Beast that hails from the same demented dimension as Naganadel and is known as the Parasite Pokémon. This Ultra Beast is categorized as “UB-01 Symbiont” for its capacity to enter symbiotic relationships with people and Pokémon. But that's not really a good thing as this terrifying floating jellyfish prefers to fully gain control over the host’s body and eventually consume it. A dual Rock and Poison type Pokemon from Generation 7 and first appearing in the Pokemon World from an Ultra Wormhole, in combat it naturally boasts amazing Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense to overpower its opponents, and all of its stats are not just off the charts, but out of the window somewhere.

5. Dragalge

Known as the Mock Kelp Pokemon from Generation 6, it is an aquatic Pokémon that resembles a common sea dragon. This dual Poison/Dragon-type Pokemon is known to call the depths of the sea home, with its poison so potent and strong it has even been known to eat through the hull of ships. Being a pirate just got riskier, what with this and Sharpedo swimming about! It's safe to say Dragalge is an absolute beast in combat, thanks to excellent stats and an incredibly varied move pool, consisting of abilities like Poison Spike and damaging same-type moves like Draco Meteor. Add to that its Adaptability, which further powers up same-type moves, and you can begin to see just how formidable and dangerous a Dragalge can be. One of the most dangerous Pokemon for sure!

4. Roserade

It may be one of the most beautiful Flower Pokemon designs, this evolved form of fan-favourite Roselia is devastatingly good in combat alongside its gorgeous looks. Definitely a femme fatale! It also carries the grace of a dancer, proving that the best Pokemon in combat don't have to be the heaviest, those competitive spots don't have to be reserved just for the tankiest looking Pokemon! A dual Grass and Poison type Pokemon from Generation 4, this versatile creature is known as the Bouquet Pokémon for the flower bundles growing at the ends of its arms. It is also one of the first evolutions to come from an original gen 3 creature (Roselia = Gen 3, Roserade = Gen 4). Its fragrant flowers cleverly serve to distract opponents and unsuspecting prey from the thorny tendrils within, and lull them in to a false sense of security. Its typing makes it an incredibly versatile Pokemon to have on your team, while excellent Sp. Attack and nice Speed ensure it is a special sweeper, with access to hazard setup moves like Spikes that will really put pressure on opponents.

3. Toxtricity

A dual Electric/Poison type Pokémon from Generation 8 and Pokémon Sword & Shield, it is known as the Punk Pokémon and has been gaining popularity fast thanks to its amazing creative design and cool personality. It's known to have two forms that depend on its nature, a somewhat gloomier Low Key Form and a feisty Amped Form. It has an electrical organ on its chest and, while generating electricity, it fills its surroundings with what sounds like the strumming of a bass guitar. This rocker lizard is a love letter to England’s long punk history, which manifests through its Punk Rock ability, which will power up sound-based moves. It's just plain cool!

2. Eternatus

One of the Legendary creatures in the Galar region, this dual Poison and Dragon type Pokemon from Generation  is actually the first toxin-based Legendary, although its design is closer to that of an Ultra Beast! Our Poison Legendary Pokemon is known as the Gigantic Pokémon both for its size and its ties to the Gigantamax phenomenon, Eternatus is truly unique, maybe to do with the fact that Eternatus arrived on the Pokémon world on a meteorite approximately 20,000 years ago. Not only the most famous and easily recognisable Poison Type Pokemon, it's forever been a powerhouse in battle, is known as the Shadow Pokemon, has amazing stats and is one of the strongest Pokemon of all time, as well as one of the scariest Pokemon of all time. This creature haunts your shadows, the darkness in your living room at night, and laughs at fear from the corner of your closet after you’ve had a terrible nightmare. While already a punishing sweeper thanks to its great Sp. Attack, Speed, and access to moves like Shadow Ball, Gengar’s Mega Evolution takes it to the next level. It puts this Pokémon into the very top tier of fighters.
