The Pokemon universe, the only place where cats can hatch from eggs! Cats are known as mysterious creatures, so lets take the mystery out of the equation and take a look at the most elegant, the most ferocious and the cutest Pokemon cats from every region in the franchise. You'll definitely want to take them home with you - as the saying goes, one cat just leads to another!
32. Flareon
Whether Flareon is truly a cat or not, it is best to be safe and give it a nice little feature here! An iconic little critter known as the Flame Pokemon, Flareon is the evolved form of Eevee, first introduced in Generation 1. It is a shy Pokemon but is able to breathe fire as the air it inhales is ignited by a flame inside its body and expelled as fire. Imagine if our house cats could do that! It makes the perfect companion for people who like to go hiking, camping out and provides the perfect source of heat in emergency situations. Not to mention, it's design is adorable, iconic and charming!
31. Skitty
Skitty is most definitely a cat Pokemon and is one of the cutest Pokemon to boot! Introduced in Generation 3 and known as the Kitten Pokemon, this little pink Pokémon is so cute it can cause infatuation on other creatures with its Cute Charm ability.
Cats definitely know how to keep you under their spell! It has a quirky shaped tail that it loves to chase and has a very cute and charming personality, it is a cheerful and adorable pink companion to keep at your side and attract fawning glances wherever you go!
30. Delcatty
The evolved form of Skitty enjoys, well, eating, sleeping, and grooming itself. An adorable cat Pokemon also from Generation 3, it is known for its grooming habits as the prim Pokémon! It keeps its good-natured and friendly personality, but now with a beautiful cream and purple coat of fur, along with some quirky little furry features about its collar and tail. Although a wonderful and friendly companion, it prefers to tend to its fur rather than partake in battle. It has a really nice movepool that it can access, but doesn't quite have the stats to take control in combat.
29. Umbreon
Another Eeveelution that is so much like a cat, but with bunny ears! Unlike many other felines in this list, this Pokemon would gladly trade the comfort of your sofa for the heat of battle if needed. Appearing a lot like a black cat Pokemon, it is a Dark type Eeveelution Pokemon from Generation 2 that is also known as the Moonlight Pokémon. It carries beautiful gold rounded ring markings on its black body that glow in the dark and this elegant shadowy Pokemon, unlike the original three Eeveelutions, which all required specific elemental stones, can be evolved from an Eevee with a high-enough friendship level, so long as you level it up during night (another game mechanic first added into gen 2).
28. Jolteon
Why is Jolteon so good? Some may ask. Ranked our number one Electric type Pokemon, it is this electrical Eeveelution that will truly steal the show in combat.
This electrifying creature is the result of presenting Eevee with a thunder stone. It possesses insane speed, stellar sp. attack and decent sp. defense and becomes an incredible sweeper that can stand tall in battle and has the stamina to keep going, not to mention it also carries the Volt Absorb ability! If Jolteon is a cat, it is a ferocious, fighting one that enjoys defending its territory and getting in to scraps (and winning). Instead of scratching, it may end up discharging 10,000 volts on you!
27. Glameow
Known as the Catty Pokemon, Glameow is valued all over the Pokémon world for its elegant looks and graceful movements. A gray feline Pokémon with a slender physique, it has a crescent-shaped head with two white-tipped ears and is a Normal type Pokemon from Generation 4. This particular feline carries a fickle temperment and may become spiteful to those who it feels have wronged it. However, when happy, Glameow demonstrates beautiful movements of its tail, like a dancing ribbon, and it will purr affectionately.
26. Purugly
Known as the Tiger Cat Pokemon, this funny round looking cat is the evolved form of Glameow, also a Normal type Pokemon from Generation 4. Its rotund appearance has a special trait, its layer of gained weight is able to protect it in battle from fire and ice-type moves and what was formerly an elegant house cat has become a massive beast in battle.
It even has surprisingly high base speed!
25. Espeon
Another Eeveelution form, known as the Sun Pokémon, Espeon is the result of leveling up a very friendly Eevee during the day.
It might be seen as Umbreon’s daylight counterpart, as a Psychic type Pokemon from Generation 2, and carries the same mysterious, beautiful and elegant silhouette. It appears as like a piece of fan art in itself, with its beautiful dusky purple hue, double ended tail, gleaming almond eyes and the bejewelled orb on its forehead, which it can unleash psychic power from and is known to grow dull and dark when its power has been exhausted. It is said to be able to predict the future by sensing and analyzing air currents and its temperment is extremely loyal. We may have had doubts about Eevee's true species but this adorable critter is definitely cat shaped!
24. Purrloin
The clue may be in the name here! Appearing as a small feline Pokemon with dark purple fur, this Dark type Cat Pokemon from Generation 5 hails from the Unova region and is also known as the Devious Pokémon for its mischievous nature.
It likes to steal for fun and cause trouble, but then will act all cute and innocent so it’s impossible not to forgive it.
This is a cat that wants to watch the world burn around it and secretly create havoc and cause mischief, the Loki of the bunch.
23. Liepard
Known as the Cruel Pokemon, Liepard is the evolved form of Purrloin and appears a little like a purple cheetah, with gold ring patterns along its back. Thanks to its powerful limbs, like a cheetah in real life, it has an accordingly high speed stat which is its main asset in its constant turf war against Thievul. It has a difficult, moody and vicious temperment, but it is well known for its beauty, elegance and for being a powerful beast in battle, a master of the art of surprise.
22. Leafeon
A cute little leafy Grass type Cat Pokemon from Generation 4, it is known as the Verdant Pokemon, and is one of the greenest and cutest Eeveelutions around! Part Mossy Rock and Eevee, if you you see Leafeon asleep in a patch of sunshine, you'll know it is using photosynthesis to produce clean air, making it a cat-loving botanist’s dream. This incredible little talent is possibly the reason why both of its abilities in combat are centered around fighting better in the sunlight.
Leafeon by default has stellar defense, and enough physical attack to make it almost a battle heavyweight, even though it looks light enough to be made out of air! Its leafy design is so cool, with big leafy green ears and a big leafy tail. It would almost look camoflaged out lying on the grass in the sun!
21. Glaceon
Another amazing Eeveelution is this beautiful little Ice type Cat Pokemon from Generation 4, known as the Fresh Snow Pokemon. Its name is so charming! Appearing as like an Arctic creature with blue diamond like shapes along its back, it can freeze the fur on its body and make it stick out like sharp needles, which is a super helpful defensive strategy and makes it look more intimidating to its opponents too. The coldness emanating from Glaceon causes powdery snow to form, making it quite a popular Pokémon at ski resorts. Glaceon is right at home in a colder climate and unlike Leafeon, is really built for the offensive with great sp. attack and just enough defensive capabilities to not enter the “glass cannon” category.
20. Zeraora
An Electric type cat Pokemon from Generation 7, it is known as the Thunderclap Pokemon and appears as like a furry yellow bipedal feline critter with huge furry fists and huge sharp claws. It looks like it is ready for a boxing match! Its powerful appearance only adheres to its mythical status - this is a cat that is not designed to be cute but to look ferocious in battle. Although it cannot generate electricity, it can store it in great amounts, via its Volt Absorb ability, and unleash all hell against its foes while taking advantage of its legendary-level stats.
This clever ability also enables it to heal whenever hit by an Electric-type move, making it an actual powerhouse in battle.
19. Alolan Meowth
Hello little Alolan version of Meowth. This regional Meowth originally came to Alola with human migration and adapted to its new environment over the years. It appears just like its original Meowth counterpart, but with a light grey colouring and sly expression. It is a Dark type Cat Pokemon, which is how I would like to describe myself if I were a Pokemon. Trait and temperment wise, it is very clever, wily and proud and is known to fly in to hysterical rages. Combat wise, it may seem hampered by mediocre stats, but it has blazing Speed and access to Parting Shot, making it the fastest user of the move!
18. Alolan Persian
Now for the Alolan regional form of Persian, which is the evolved form of Alolan Meowth! There is something so curiously odd about it... it looks like it has adult cat proportions but with a hyper round baby cat face. But there is a good reason for this and Alolan Persian is actually valued for its round face which is seen as a sign of status among cat owners. It's also a sign in the Alolan region of prosperity and indicative that this cat lives a life of luxury. It combines all the fussy, picky and spoiled cat stereotypes in to one cuddly looking form. This is a cat that definitely has a high opinion of itself.
17. Persian
Known as the Classy Cat, this is the evolved form of Meowth and hails from the Kanto region. Although its Alolan variety may be newer and more unique, it is known to be less proud and fickle than its Alolan counterpart, although is difficult to make friends with. However, this ensures that any bond you make with this classy cat Pokemon is truly special and will be long lasting. Like its real life counterpart, the Persian cat breed, it tends to have its own agenda and is quite highly strung in temperment, although lacks the flat nose that is trademark of real life Persians, and appears more like a large, beige cat like a Lynx. It also sports a small, red gem on its forehead and is a perfect prolific hunter, with incredibly nimble feet that allow it to walk silently and pounce as fast as lightening.
16. Espurr
Known as the Restraint Pokemon, Espurr is a Psychic type cat Pokemon from Generation 6. It possesses an ominous and mysterious stare, which has since inspired denizens of the internet to come up with creepypastas, dank memes, and a lot of fanart. It turns out Espurr is just really focused on restraining its own psychic power, which could become a problem if left unchecked. That’s an… interesting note to remember about this little guy.
15. Meowstic
The evolved form of Espurr, this Dark type cat Pokemon is happily known as the Constraint Pokémon.
Meowstic is unique in the Pokemon World as being one of those critters that appear differently depending on what gender they are. An example here is that the male Meowstic possesses the Prankster ability, while the female exhibits the Competitive ability. It is said to be based on the nekomata, a mystical twin-tailed cat creature of Japanese folklore. Male Meowstic is dark blue with white accents, teal eyes and a bushier tail than female Meowstic. Female Meowstic is white with dark blue accents, and it has yellow eyes. Both are enough to inspire online libraries of Pokemon fan art wherever they go!
14. Litten
A firey cat Pokemon with a special talent! When its coat grows too long, it can safely set itself on fire to burn away the old fur. It does this around twice a year to stop its coat getting too long. One of the cutest the Alolan starters, it carries such a cool design with big yellow eyes, tiger like stripes and kitten proportions! They are said to use any accidentally ingested fur hairballs as fuel for fiery moves! It is a Fire type Cat Pokemon through and through, from Generation 7 too, but it would be very tricky to keep one as a house cat as their fur is so rich in oils, their hairballs are flammable. That’s too much of a fire hazard!
13. Torracat
Eventually the fire cat Pokémon stops spitting out flammable hairballs and goes straight to spitting fire as Torracat. It keeps its original markings and is visible a grown version of Litten, with its black and red markings and big yellow eyes. It also now has a bell-like object round where its collar might be, which is actually an organ meant to produce and store a napalm-like substance, to aid it in battle! It can spit fire at opponents and has a nice 90 base Speed, which is much better than its evolved form Incineroar's 60 base Speed. It also has access to the ability Fake Out, which is an amazing move in Doubles, and abilities like Flare Blitz, U-Turn, Heat Wave, Taunt, and Leech Life let it hold its own.
12. Incineroar
The next evolution in this trilogy is dual Dark and Fire type Cat Pokemon Incineroar, although it is more of a tiger like beast than a cat! Known as the Heel Pokemon, from Generation 7, it reminds me most of the Frosties cereal tiger mascot, just its scarier and fiercer cousin. One of the strongest starters yet, its typing, decent mixed bulk, and Intimidate ability cement it as a beast in combat and, despite being selfish and violent at times, the love for its trainer it developed as a kitten will carry over nicely.
11. Solgaleo
Known as the 'beast that devours the sun', Solgaleo was thought to be an emissary of the sun god back in ancient times. It is thought to live in another world! It can radiate intense light from the surface of its body that will light up the darkest of nights like midday. This incredible dual Psychic and Steel-type Pokémon is the first Legendary ever to have a baby form, called Cosmog, which it shares with Lunala. It belongs in this list thanks to its feline lion like appearance and its form is utterly majestic to behold, it has such an incredible design that celebrates its majesty.
10. Shinx
Known as the Flash Pokemon, Shinx appears a lot like a lion cub or a lynx cub, and those are part of the feline family, right? An adorable little Electric-type Pokemon from Generation 4 is known to flash its enemies with intense light to cover its escape whenever it feels threatened. Excited trembling is a sign that Shinx is generating a tremendous amount of electricity. If you’re traveling around the Sinnoh region keep your eyes open for intense light flashes, a Shinx might be near.
9. Luxio
The evolved form of Shinx appears as like an older lion cub, with its mane just starting to grow long. It carries a fierce and determined look on its face and is no longer the scared and afraid form of Shinx. Known as the Spark Pokemon, this little critter is still learning the ropes and is liable to accidentally make its trainer faint with a strong electrical discharge! Despite being young and inexperienced, this Electric-type Pokemon from Generation 4 is brave and powerful enough to Intimidate its opponents, lowering their attack stat and allowing Luxio an easier win.
8. Raikou
Even though Raikou is one of the three legendary dogs of the Johto region, it is feline in appearance and carries the look of a majestic prowling tiger. It's what all cats think they look like when defending their territory! Known as the Thunder Pokemon, it is just as majestic in appearance as you might expect. Raikou is thought to be an ancient saber-toothed cat, to be precise – and it deserves a place among the best cats of the Pokémon franchise for first its amazing offensive stats, but also incredible and mythical design. It's so intricate, you could stare at this Pokemon all day to acknowledge every little detail. It's one of the most beautiful Pokemon for sure!
7. Sylveon
How sweet is Sylveon! Possibly the cutest Eeveelution ever, it is known as the Intertwining Pokemon and appears as like a mystical cat like creature, with round, oval shaped glassy blue eyes. A Fairy type Pokemon from Generation 6, it is one of the most pleasing and beautiful Pokemon to look at, although in a completely different way to Raikou. It looks like a dainty French cake or pastry fused with Little Bo Peep. There's even a Galarian fairy tale that describes a beautiful Sylveon vanquishing a dreadful dragon Pokémon that plagued the land! It will evolve from Eevee once it’s given enough love by its Trainer.
This newer fairy-type Eeveelution will do everything in its power to return that love, using ribbon-like feelers to sense its trainer’s feelings and act accordingly.
Even though it is a loving and cute Pokemon, Sylveon can actually pack a mean punch in combat thanks to its great Sp. Defense and Sp. Attack.
6. Vaporeon
Known as the Bubble Jet Pokemon, it is often mistaken for mermaids by sailors encountering it in the wild! A cute Water type Pokemon from Generation 1, appears as a little like a combination of a cat, fox and fish! It carries fins instead of ears and an Elizabethan like frilled collar around its neck. It has the cutest little cat like mouth and your Eevee can gain this unique mutation using a water stone. Something ironic about this transformation is that it becomes a feline that likes water. After conquering this fear it becomes a cat with no weaknesses! It will demonstrate this in combat, where it shows itself as a powerful beast with incredible HP and solid Sp. Attack, making for a very bulky sweeper.
5. Eevee
The prevolved form of so much incredible cat like Pokemon, this amazing feline critter needs a feature of its own! Eevee's iconic design means it appears as a little like a cat, a squirrel and a dog, with big bunny like ears that are the hallmarks of its evolved forms. A normal type Pokemon from Generation 1 is one of the most iconic and well-loved creatures in the franchise, with tons of fan art celebrating it and its other evolved forms. It was even the titular character in Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee, where it was adorned with flowers and looked adorable! It is such a multifaceted character before it even evolves!
4. Galarian Meowth
Originally found in the Kanto region, this Steel-type Pokemon from Generation will go on to evolve into Galarian Persian starting at level 28 - and then into Perrserker while exposed to a Dusk Stone. After years of living alongside a group of hardy, seafaring people, the Galarian Meowth has become much more rough and resistant than the common variety.
It appears as like a mix between a tabby cat and a Viking! It appears with a shaggy, greyish-brown coat resembling a beard, as well as yellow eyes and a toothy grin.
3. Perrserker
The evolved form of Galarian Meowth, Perrserker, is the polar opposite of Alolan Persian. It is the closest thing to a Viking Pokemon, a rowdy creature that always longs to battle and prove itself in combat. The claws have become hardened after Perrserker have battled multiple times and no wonder it always comes out stronger, in combat Perrserker is a total beast with great attack and defense. Even though its speed isn't quite up there, it’s grizzled and badass, with steel-hard fur that forms a sort of armor all around its body including what looks like a horned helmet. It looks like it should have its own Disney movie - perhaps I am thinking here of the Beast from Beauty and the Beast as they are quite similar in appearance!
2. Mew
Famously cute for its adorable cat like shape, super long tail and iconic pink hue (as well as its super short little arms!) this adorable feline cat Pokemon is actually a rare sight to be seen and even when it wants to be spotted, it is said that only the pure of heart can see it. A Psychic type Pokemon from Generation 1, it inspires fan art everywhere it goes and is known widely as the New Species Pokemon, a nod to its origins story as it is said to possess the genetic composition of all Pokémon. While its clone Mewtwo is a powerful force to be reckoned with, Mew is so charming and curious that it couldn't not make the cutest Pokemon list, even if it is a super powerful legendary Pokemon with insanely strong powers.
1. Meowth
The original cat Pokemon with the most iconic cat design, this adorable feline critter is known as the Scratch Cat Pokemon! A Normal type Pokemon from Generation 1, Game Freak has recently provided it with new regional Pokemon forms - although it is known to not get on with its recently discovered Galerian form. Meowth has been a core part of the Pokémon experience ever since Team Rocket’s talking Meowth was first introduced, catapulting an otherwise low profile Pokémon to fame. It is known to especially love collecting shiny things and its temperment can be impulsive, selfish, and fickle, the stereotypical nature of cats. It's very popular with some Trainers who like giving it the attention it needs and it will be sure to reward those who spend plenty of time fussing it!
